PRP CCF 
The Central Commissioning Facility (CCF), managed by LGC Grant Management Group (GMG), is the research coordinating centre looking after the commissioning and monitoring of PRP research alongside a significant a portion of NIHR investments in applied R&D. The PRP CCF acts as the managing agent, issuing calls for research applications and managing all administrative, contractual, financial and project monitoring aspects of the PRP research projects lifecycle.

Meet the Team:

Mario Moroso - Assistant Director - Research Programmes, Head of PRP CCF 

Before joining the Policy Research Programme at the Central Commissioning Facility, Mario took the lead on a number of initiatives funded by the UK Department of Health and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), such as the Health Innovation Challenge Fund (a collaboration between the Department of Health and the Wellcome Trust) and the NIHR Research for Patient Benefit programme. Mario also contributed to business development activities as well as international initiatives on behalf of LGC and its partners, developing in the process close relationships with innovators operating within the health space from all sectors (government, NHS, academia, industry, third sector). Mario grew up in Verona and studied in Bologna (Media and Communication Studies) and Exeter (Sociology). 

Nicholas Chandler - Senior Programme Manager

Nick has worked on the Policy Research Programme at the Central Commissioning Facility since 2007 and currently oversee delivery of the work programmes for the Policy Research Units. He has extensive experience of PRP operations, working on a number of process improvement initiatives with colleagues from other DH and NIHR programmes. Prior to CCF Nick managed a sales team in a business-to-business publishing firm that advised on best practice and legal compliance in many areas including health and safety, environmental management, education, tax and accountancy. Nick has a Social Science background, specifically Sociology and Social Research Methods.

Chiara Gasparini - Senior Programme Manager

Chiara has joined the Policy Research Programme at the Central Commissioning Facility after extensive experience in biomedical research. She has managed several research projects in Immunology and Gene Therapy and has promoted international scientific collaborations with the aim to develop innovative solutions in research. Chiara has a broad experience as biomedical writer (reviews, papers, proposals) in Inflammation and Oncology and has been Invited Professor at the Université Paris-Est Creteil. She obtained her PhD in Experimental Pathology (Trieste) and has been Marie Curie Fellow at Imperial College London.

Mike Nelson - Programme Manager

Before joining the Central Commissioning Facility, Mike worked in analytical laboratories in South Africa and the United Kingdom. Mike grew up in Durban and studied Biotechnology at the Durban University of Technology.

Farheen Shafiq - Programme Manager

Farheen joined the Policy Research Programme Central Commissioning Facility in 2006 and has gained significant experience in on-going research grants management. Previously to this, Farheen was the Senior Project Manager, for the Diversity and Equality Section Department for Work and Pensions. She managed and implemented a personal development initiative for staff in ethnic minorities within Jobcentres and supported participants with their development needs, such as facilitating events and delivery/design of workshops.
